: Mysterious Carnac is one of Europe’s most important prehistoric sites, in use since 5700BC. Around 2,000 menhirs (megalithic stones) stand in parallel rows north of the delightful town. Pass through the gateway Porte St- Vincente of Vannes’ walled and well-preserved old town and you enter a stroller’s paradise of lively squares, winding streets overhung by timber fronted houses and charming gardens. Busy, modern Vannes has plenty of grand public buildings and fascinating museums.

Day 3Full Day Tour To Mont-Saint-Michel And Fougères.

Location: Mont-Saint-Michel

Accommodation Name: Mercure Rennes Centre Parlement

Meals Included: Breakfast

: The breath-taking Mont-Saint-Michel is definitely worth a quick sojourn into Normandy. The island commune has been the seat of a monastery since the 8th century though it was at its most influential in the 12th and 13th centuries as a pilgrimage site. The abbey, unchanged for centuries, crowns the island, the village at its foot full of shops and restaurants. En route, we will visit the fortress town of Fougères which is protected by ramparts. Its impressive château comprises 13 towers and walls over 3 metres thick.

Day 4Full Day To Relax And Explore Rennes At Your Leisure.

Location: Rennes

Accommodation Name: Mercure Rennes Centre Parlement

Meals Included: Breakfast

: Rennes, the regional capital is a likeable, lively city. Though much of the historic centre was rebuilt in the 1720s following a devastating fire, there are still medieval gems to be found amongst the grand 18th century replacements. For an excellent overview of life in Brittany since prehistoric times visit the Museé de Bretagne whilst the Musée des Beaux Arts is notable for its paintings and drawings collection.

Day 5Full Day Tour To Dinan, Dinard And Saint- Malo.

Location: Saint-Malo

: The medieval walled town of Dinan sits on a hilltop overlooking the River Rance. Some of its many historical buildings date back to the 13th century and the city walls are excellent for a stroll that will lead you to the Château de Dinan. Belle Époque villas and sandy beaches made Dinard France’s top resort until the 1930s and attracted many famous names including Picasso, Debussy and Winston Churchill. Saint-Malo is a walled port city that was once notorious for piracy. Today the only treasure is the elegant, old architecture, particularly the superb citadel at the city’s heart.

Day 6Full Day Tour To Côte Du Granit Rose And Paimpol.

Location: Côte du Granit Rose

Accommodation Name: Mercure Rennes Centre Parlement

Meals Included: Breakfast

: The picturesque Côte du Granit Rose gets its name from its reddish-pink granite cliffs, the stone from which has also been used for many of the area’s buildings. Paimpol is a charming Breton fishing port with cobbled streets and a Quartier Latin.

Another excellent well organised tour. Terry is BRILLIANT,knows so much and is able to impart this in an easily understood way. He is also very funny.I also felt confident that he could cope with any problems that might arise.

This was another successful holiday with Travel Editions, and we enjoyed it. However, there were a few issues. We realised that this would be a different type of holiday, i.e.a city chain hotel rather than a family run establishment in a smaller town or village, and we had adjusted our expectations accordingly. Our main concern arises from the timing of the trip over a bank holiday weekend. Rennes is not particularly a tourist town. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as you do feel you are seeing the real France, and it was not an issue on the days we had trips out, but the choice of Sunday for the free day was unfortunate as basically everything was closed. It was difficult even to find a café open. We were given no suggestions as to what we could do and, although we were able to occupy ourselves with museums and a walking tour from the tourist information office, we would have liked an opportunity to take relaxing breaks and refreshment. The hotel also seemed to be geared more towards business guests than tourists. It was conveniently located, the room was comfortable and the breakfasts good, but there were no facilities for relaxation and no pool or garden. There was basically no opportunity to relax at the hotel or in the town. One suggestion might be to make the Saturday the free day, when Rennes holds its famous markets, and shops and cafes are open. Secondly we don’t understand what the Cote de Granit Rose added to the holiday. We spent practically the whole afternoon in the coach and barely even saw the coast. We certainly never saw the pink rock formations which a quick search of google had led us to expect, and which was surprising as your tour information suggests this might be one of the highlights of the holiday. We expected one or two quick stops at viewing points and then a longer stop for a more detailed view and a drink. In fact we spent 45 minutes at a small resort without even a direct view of the sea, where the only bar was shut for lunch, and the one cafe already full. We spent over 4 hours in the coach that afternoon. It was not an impressive end to the holiday and (having consulted maps, guidebooks etc since our return) we really have to wonder whether we were even taken to the right place. If it was the right place, then perhaps we should have been given some information as to where to go to see the rock formations, because they certainly weren’t immediately visible. Steve was an affable and helpful tour guide and clearly very experienced, but seemed to put in less effort than we might have expected. He was good, but your previous guides have been excellent.

This was our first trip with you and we enjoyed it very much. Helene was an excellent tour manager and it was a pleasure to share our holiday with her. Sandrine was a great and very safe driver. Thanks again for organising the room upgrade for my mother and me - this made a big difference - including the option of breakfast in the room. Carnac was a highlight; Mont-Saint-Michel an experience. The trip to Dinard was lovely. We skipped the trip to Paimpol (based on previous reviews) and enjoyed a day in Rennes instead. One very minor point - scheduling the free day for a Sunday was perhaps not the best option - particularly given the lack of options (pool, lounge, garden) at the hotel.

Great holiday in no small part due to Terry, our tour manager. Tireless and so good -humoured. Hotel excellent, very helpful staff, BUT cardboard cups?? Coach journey across Paris very poor; very stressful for passengers and Terry! So, downsides not really the fault of Travel Editions.

We enjoyed our trip, and Helene our Tour Manager was helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. We felt that our tour would have been better if it was not in the main holiday session, perhaps in June or September. Also, although the breakfast provided by the Mercure hotel was good, I was a bit disappointed, being a Coeliac, that the bread was not as good as previous TE hotels. Overall we were pleased with our trip and we were fortunate to have missed the chaos that followed with the railway network.

This was an excellent tour. The only disappointment was on Day 6: Full day tour to Cote de Granit Rose and Paimpol. Paimpol was the least interesting town that we visited. We saw very little of the Cote de Granit Rose. We drove to Ploumanac'h and saw a little of the coast there and then down to Tregastel, passing large areas of mudbank on the way. I had rather expected a coastal drive with views of the pink granite rocks and the sea. It was a long journey to see so little.

Despite extreme heat and crowds at border checks, the tour went smoothly, largely due to the efforts of the tour manager, Hélène, who dealt with any difficulties expertly and with a smile. Rennes, where the hotel is located, is an attractive and friendly city and all of the places we visited were fantastic. Our local driver was also friendly and excellent.

Our party of 12 people were all in agreement that we had a exceptional holiday in Brittany. Special mention to our guide, Terry and the driver for the week Yannick, both of whom became friends to all.

An interesting tour. The individual trips were successful( not the fault of Travel Editions that Mont St. Michel is impossible). The only exception was the lack of any oink cliffs at Cote de Granit Rose! More time in Paimpol should be considered. Hotel excellent. The Tour manager was accessible and friendly and dealt very well with a couple of incidents. Certainly 10 out of 10. Very good coach driver
