Tour Overview
Although the Amazon rainforest is the most famous eco vacation destination in Brazil, you won't see most of the animal species there. Your best chance to discover Brazil's wildlife is on one of the many Pantanal tours that are offered across the country. Mato Grosso is the only state in Brazil that is home to different ecosystems within a comfortable distance of the capital, Cuiabá. This programme gives visitors the opportunity to visit the Pantanal 100km south of Cuiabá, the Chapada dos Guimarães, 76km to the north-east and the untouched beauty of little Bom Jardim, in the municipality of Nobres, 147km to the north-west! Pantanal is a unique ecosystem, in one of the most fascinating regions in the world: 230,000 square kilometers that form a biological oasis of wildlife and the largest water-covered plain in the world. Around 650 species of birds, 230 species of fish, 80 species of mammals, 50 species of reptiles and countless species of insects are waiting to be discovered by you. For wildlife-spotting, the dry season (June-October) is undoubtedly the best time to visit the Pantanal. The water has receded and the animals come out from the deeper and more inaccessible parts of the wetlands and cluster around the waterholes. The peak of the rainy summer season (November to March) is still a great time to visit as it's quintessentially Pantaneiro in its lush landscape. This is when the rivers overflow and flood the lowlands, making most of Pantanal only accessible by aeroplane or boat.
Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1 : Welcome To Chapada Dos Guimarães
Location: Cuiabá, Chapada dos Guimarães
Accommodation: Lodge
Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner
At the airport you will be picked up by the transfer person after the baggage carousel with your name (sign). You drive 70 km to the town of Chapada dos Guimarães. There you will get to know the small town of Chapada. The small town of Chapada is located northeast of Cuiabá, has about 16,000 inhabitants and is located on a rocky plateau at 836m above sea level. Gorges, table mountains, caves, rivers and waterfalls are part of this impressive landscape.
After the Amazon in the north of the state of Mato Grosso and the Pantanal, this table mountain is the third ecosystem in this region, which is unique in the world. Check-in at the pousada, which is located in the village of Chapada. Lunch depends on arrival at the airport. After lunch, drive to the Mirante viewpoint for a beautiful view of the countryside. Mirante is also the geographic center of South America. You will be interested in a short hike in the Table Mountains. You will visit other attractions (rock sculptures, small waterfalls, etc.) in this area. These excursions depend on the short time and the opening times of the facilities, which unfortunately change constantly and cannot be planned in advance.
In the evening return to Chapada and dinner there. Overnight in the pousada in Chapada. The rest of the evening is free.
Overnight in standard accommodation.
